Joining a new vessel always involves uncertainty. Contracts provide the technical details such the ship\u2019s name, flag, type and trade, but rarely include the things that impact daily life and safety the most. What does the accommodation look like? Is the food decent? Is the water safe? And perhaps most importantly: what\u2019s the safety culture\u00a0actually\u00a0<\/em>like? Companies that invest in good practices, decent living conditions and a positive safety culture are better able to demonstrate that these efforts are recognised by those who work on their ships. In this way, transparency helps reward good performance as much as it exposes poor standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
