Using personal mobile devices such as mobile phones and mp4 players whilst on duty can lead to serious safety issues. CHIRP Maritime has produced this video with the aim of providing an informational video backed up by scientific evidence.
CHIRP Maritime is the world’s foremost maritime confidential reporting programme promulgating the safety message and asking challenging questions that others seek to avoid. Including A report highlighting difficulties on cruise and passenger vessels that disabled persons may encounter when following standard emergency procedures. Rescue boat lifting strops Rescue boat lifting strops were renewed but when refitted, were secured to the incorrect strongpoints, resulting in the potential for a serious incident to occur. Painting over the side – Who needs safety culture? Whilst alongside in a small Mediterranean port. There was a small coastal ferry moored directly astern of us which is used to connect the port with a nearby island. On her starboard (outboard) side, I could clearly see a crew member working over the side in an unsafe manner. He was dangerously leaning over a metal embarkation ladder and was not wearing any kind of personal protective equipment apart from safety shoes. This picture was taken at the time. There was also what looked like an officer supervising the job from the deck… demonstrating a complete lack of safety culture!
