Over 300 fatalities have occurred in enclosed spaces on ships since 1996. This short highlights the hazards. Stay aware - stay alive.
Unsafe and non-compliant pilot transfer arrangements (aka pilot ladders) can be lethal. 7 pilots have been killed in 2023 alone. Pilots are encouraged to seek 'stop work' authority from their port authority so that they can be confident in refusing to board non-compliant and unsafe ladders.
We take a look at some of the dangerous ladder arrangements provided by ships when attempting to take maritime pilots on board. Our message is simple: if you are offered an unsafe or non-compliant ladder, do not board! Seek 'stop work' authority from your line manager so that you are empowered to refuse to board until a safe, compliant arrangement is provided. #maritimesafety #maritimepilot #maritime #safety
Using personal mobile devices such as mobile phones and mp4 players whilst on duty can lead to serious safety issues. CHIRP Maritime has produced this video with the aim of providing an informational video backed up by scientific evidence.

Rescue boat lifting strops Rescue boat lifting strops were renewed but when refitted, were secured to the incorrect strongpoints, resulting in the potential for a serious incident to occur.
