Breakaway from Moorings

Breakaway from Moorings

A 50′, twin-masted yacht, moored between two buoys has broken its forward mooring and is tethered by an approximately 18mm diameter rope aft.  The boat has already swung into another boat causing damage and may interfere with a ferry transit.  The Harbour master, although notified, does not appear to be doing anything.

CHIRP contacted the harbour master to confirm he was aware of the problem.  Whilst there was a considerable amount of additional “history” surrounding this vessel, any immediate threat it posed had been addressed.

The safety message is an obvious one:

Make sure your moorings are up to the job.
