The UK-based Confidential Human Factors Incident Reporting Programme (CHIRP Maritime) has joined with the socially focused service provider, Human Rights at Sea International, in a partnership Memorandum of Understanding to share resources, investigate incidents of egregious human rights abuse and where able, pursue justice for victims.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signed in the library of the leading legal shipping set, Quadrant Chambers in London, the MoU provides a firm basis for future co-operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CHIRP\u2019s Director Maritime, Adam Parnell said, \u201cMany safety incident reports that we receive arise from breaches of regulatory and legal obligations which are in place to protect the safety of seafarers and the environment. This Memorandum of Understanding allows CHIRP and Human Rights at Sea International to once again work collaboratively in identifying and addressing these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive Director, Human Rights at Sea International David Hammond said, \u201cThis new and mutual partnership means we can streamline our respective services in addressing safety, security and well-being of workers at sea. This is a reinforcement of our previous work together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CHIRP Maritime aims to improve safety at sea worldwide through its confidential and independent reporting programme. It welcomes safety-related reports from anywhere in the world and from all parts of the maritime industry including commercial seafarers, fishers, recreational and leisure mariners, and anyone who works in a port or harbour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also welcomes reports from members of the public who use ports, harbours or other means of maritime transport such as ferry and cruise vessel passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human Rights at Sea International will act as a key stakeholder through which CHIRP Maritime can pass confidential reports to be reviewed, assessed and published on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
